![]() ![]() Mailhot teaches courses in fiction, non-fiction, and form and technique at the graduate and undergraduate levels. ![]() Her work engages issues of race, gender, ethnicity, and mental health and provides an important voice in First Nations/Native American/Indigenous conversations at the local, national, and international levels. ![]() She is the New York Times bestselling author of Heart Berries: A Memoir. Mailhot’s nonfiction essays and short stories have appeared in such publications as Guernica, The Guardian, Mother Jones, Al Jazeera, Indian Country Today, Huffington Post Canada, Time, Catapult, Longreads, The Los Angeles Times, and Best American Essays. She was a 2017-18 Tecumseh Fellow at Purdue and joined the faculty in 2018. Department of Mailhot received a Master of Fine Arts degree from the Institute of American Indian Art as well as master’s and bachelor’s degrees from New Mexico State University. ![]()
